Project Description

Giving is not just about make a donation, it’s about making a difference.

With the successful completion of the 1st phase of TANA-Basavatarakam project in 2022, we are now extending the phase- 2 to support TANA- NTR Trust Thalassemia Blood disorder project. We are familiar with NTR-Trust and the services they provide to help the needy in various ways. TANA will be collaborating with NTR-Trust and Basavatarakam cancer hospital in the Thalassemia project. The goal is to raise $100,000 to $200,000 over the next 2 years. To create awareness on Cancer, Heart health and blood disorders we are planning a Hiking to One of the 7 peaks with the world record holder, youngest woman to climb Mt. Everest in 2024.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder, where a patient cannot produce normal Hemoglobin. Red cells are unable to transport oxygen.

Difficulties for Thalassemia Major Children

  • Thalassemia Major Children are unable to produce healthy and effective red cells as a result, they have problem of pallor, weakness, growth retardation, bone deformities etc.
  • Thalassemia Major is mostly incurable.
  • For survival, they need repeated red cells transfusion for every 15 to 20 days, hence it’s apparent that life of these patients is dependent on regular Blood donors.
  • Due to repeated transfusions, there is an iron overload in the body, which gets deposited in heart, liver and pancreas. Excess iron has to be removed with chelator drug which is expensive.
  • They are at an increased risk of blood borne infections like HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
  • It is a costly affair for the family as the monthly treatment cost around Rs.8,000-10,000
  • The Thalassemic children will have to undergo blood transfusion since their birth and has to continue as long as the patient survive, thus undergoing stress of pain and huge financial commitment.
  • Despite all the pain and medication, only few of Thalassemia children cross teenage in India

Role of NTR Thalassemia Care Center

  • NTR Thalassemia Care Centre is committed to issue safe and quality blood to Thalassemia Children, at no cost.
  • NTR Thalassemia Care Centre has initiated Blood Shield Program to provide safe blood and medicines to the children who are economically compromised.
  • NTR Thalassemia Care Centre initiated a program “Blood Shield Program” for thalassemic kids. We have more than 80 Thalassemia cases visiting us on a regular basis for blood transfusion. To accommodate maximum cases with safe and quality blood, we are planning to invite specific blood donors.
  • NTR Thalassemia Care Centre would identify and register donors and cluster them by blood group and donate to the same thalassemia child, to avoid reactions and further complications.

Role of TANA:

With a major need of support for Blood transfusion, NTR Trust is looking for a partner who can help in this Nobel project. It also matched TANA’s mission to help the needy and hence committed to support this great cause. With this background about the needs of the NTR Trust the Goal is to raise a minimum $250,000 to meet the needs of the Thalassemia Care Centre and TANA is going to be part of this continuous efforts.

Your donation will make a difference and impact a lot of poor lives. This will give an opportunity for many underprivileged people who cannot even afford blood transfusion every month. No good deed is ever small, if you wish to contribute and be part of this Nobel cause and save lives, please donate online @
